About our school - “A place of history and innovation”

BG Klosterneuburg IB World School is a senior secondary public school for students aged 10-14 (lower grades) and 15-18 (higher grades) in Klosterneuburg, Lower Austria. Our school is situated in a town of about 27,588 inhabitants, close to Austria’s capital Vienna, surrounded by vineyards, bordering Wienerwald and the Danube. The town of Klosterneuburg is well-known for its monastery of the same name and an ideal place to raise children with its sports facilities, green spaces and additional educational offers.

We are among the few public schools in Austria providing an international education and school leaving certificate, the IB Diploma Programme and Certificate.

Gymnasium Klosterneuburg is also a school with a long history and tradition to look back on:

Founded in 1902, our school has enjoyed a reputation of excellency throughout the years and has been attended by a variety of well-known alumni from the fields of politics, arts and literature.

About our pedagogical concept and goals-” Let’s develop specific interests and a well-balanced personality on a basis of general knowledge and collaboration”

We aim to provide a well-rounded and open-minded education both for local students as well as for international students, joining us along the way. We believe that school is the place to discover hidden talents and to support obvious ones. We are deeply committed to teaching our students to find out how interesting and versatile our world is, to find their specific fields of interest and their place in the world. We want them to learn how to explore, analyze, be critical, learn from mistakes and to finally succeed. In this respect we aim to provide general knowledge, excellent language skills and intellectual and extra-curricular challenges.

Our school comprises two different branches, a language focused branch (Gymnasium) and a science-oriented branch (Realgymnasium). The Bilingual Classes are part of the language branch. Our school offers the IB Diploma Programme, enabling students to take the IB Diploma Exams in addition to the Austrian Matura Exam.

Teaching social skills and providing our students with professional guidance if needed constitute equally important educational goals at our school. We additional aim to balance academic challenges by offering a variety of optional sports subjects and extra-curricular activities to our students. Our “Mentoring-Programme” and “Peer-Teaching Programme” stimulate students’ social conscience and encourage them to take action.

Teaching at BG Klosterneuburg follows the curriculum of an Austrian Gymnasium. Within this framework, we regularly engage our students in group and project work and cross-curricular activities.
