Requirements for Admission to Year 1 of the Bilingual Programme
• You need to fulfill the general requirements for entry of an Austrian Gymnasium/Secondary School.
• To join Year 1 in September 2025, your child must be born between September 1, 2014 and August 31, 2015.
• At the time of entry, you are required to live in the catchment area for BG Klosterneuburg, comprising central Klosterneuburg and its surrounding cadastral districts (Höflein, Kierling, Kritzendorf, Maria Gugging, Weidling, Weidlingbach/Scheiblingstein, St Andrä Wördern) with a legal guardian.
Apart from the Admission Process into the Bilingual Programme (Step 3), your child must be properly enrolled into the school, as explained in Steps 1 and 2:
Step 1
January/February 2025
Register your child using the online form available from January 2025 onwards. The exact dates of the registration period are set by the Lower Austrian Education Board and are non-negotiable.
Make sure to state your preference for the Bilingual Programme on this form and you will then receive an invitation to the entrance assessments per mail.
Step 2
After submitting the online registration, the child’s legal guardian must present the following documents in person on one of the three registration days:

• Printed and signed online registration form
• Social security number of your child
• Certificate of residency of your child (= Meldezettel) (original and copy)
• Passport (original and copy)
• Birth certificate (= Geburtsurkunde) (original and copy)
• Most recent half term school report (= Semesterzeugnis) (original and copy)
• Most recent German and Mathematics tests (Schularbeiten) (copy)
• Certificate of baptism (= Taufschein) if applicable(original and copy)
• Guardianship decree (Vormundschaftsdekret) for single parents if applicable (original and copy)
If your child meets the general requirements for admission to our school, she/he will be invited for a personal interview.
Step 3 (February 2025)
In late February applicants to the Bilingual Programme will be invited to sit a written Entrance Exam and attend a subsequent oral interview to assess their suitability for the Bilingual Programme.
Shortly after the entrance assessments, parents/guardians will be notified of the results per email.
Should your child not gain a place in the Bilingual Programme, a place in one of the regular classes at BG/BRG Klosterneuburg is guaranteed.
Written and Oral Entrance Assessment to Year 1
Both the written and oral part of the exam assesses the language skills in the applicants’ best language of instruction (German or English), creativity and logical thinking. The assessments are conducted by an external panel.
The written and oral assessments can be taken either in English or German, depending on which language the child feels most secure in.
